Leading Challenges
“ . . . leaders aren’t born, they’re built from the inside out.”
Leading change is a natural part of life, a skill that can be learned. It is an essential skill in modern life and business. Clients who have started their journey towards developing excellence in leading change have done so for a variety of reasons. Some examples of challenges faced by those with whom I have worked have been:
“I want to change from being a manager to being a leader, but I’m not sure how.”
“I’m aware that my leadership is holding my Company back. I’d like to overcome this.”
“I’m good at managing projects, but I’ve been told that I’m not so good at leading them. What do people mean when they say this? How can I change and become a good project leader as well as a good project manager?”
“I want to create for myself an effective leadership style.”
“My time management is terrible! I need some help in organising my time better.”
“I’m a good leader, but I’d really like to be a better one.”
“Can you help me develop my emotional intelligence?”
“I want to develop a clear vision for my Company, but my style is in the present not in the future.”
“I want to influence others within my workplace, but I don’t know how to do so effectively.”
“I lack the confidence to challenge the gap in performance of a member of my team.”
“I am in conflict with a member of my team, and I don’t know how best to handle this.”
“The executive team are simply not working together. How do I create a team culture where they will work together?”
“I want balance between my work and my personal life.”
- “I don’t know what I want, but I know I want greater fulfilment!”
- “I want to make more money.”
Thus, as mentioned elsewhere in my site, the changes that are often sought can be either remedial or generative. Remedial change then is when someone has a problem. They may say, “I lack the confidence to challenge the gap in performance of a member of my team.” Others might say, “I’m a good leader, but I’d really like to be a better one.” This is generative change - taking a strength and making it even better or broadening a skill so it is effective in even more situations. In both examples of change, knowing what you want to change and knowing how to go about changing it requires a special approach.
Whatever your challenge as a leader, 1:1 coaching, facilitation of a real-time leadership development experience, or a bespoke leadership seminar or workshop will optimise your leading beyond what you might imagine.
