Leading Semiars - Achieveing Congruence

Purpose

Leadership Seminars, of which Achieving Congruence is an example, are designed to support individuals working in executive, business or project teams in their mastery of the core thinking and behaviours of leadership.

Benefits for the individual, team and the business

These have included:

  • developing strategic leadership skills
  • developing a clear sense of personal leadership
  • developing a clear sense of interpersonal leadership
  • identifying and optimising the interrelationships between strategic, personal and interpersonal leadership
  • identifying ways to sustain change and deliver results

through creating:

  • clear space to think - away from day-to-day activities
  • a safe and highly confidential environment to explore and support learning

When is my approach recommended?

When:

  • development is required that is better addressed by general skills training
  • support for the team is not required over a period of time
  • it is appropriate for you to build the leadership skills of your team with a specialist external to the company

My approach

My approach is based on our knowledge of optimum ways to accelerate learning.  It includes a variety of methods to do this, and it should be noted that these are highly participative - learning is through thinking then doing then reflection.

A core framework for the Achieving Congruence Seminar includes four interrelating seminars.  These incorporate both personal and interpersonal leading essential to becoming an impactful leader.  The core framework is as follows:

  • Seminar I: Mastery of Strategic Leadership
  • Understanding the system in which one is operating

    Strategic analysis

    Strategic thinking

  • Seminar II:  Mastery of Personal Leadership
  • Vision and action

Mental Maps and the assumptions we make

    Becoming congruent

  • Seminar III: Mastery of Interpersonal Leadership
  • Taking the perspective of others (followers) in the system

Understanding others (followers) different thinking styles

    Recognising others (followers) intention

  • Seminar IV:  Mastery of Communication and Influence – Sustaining Change
  • Developing verbal and non-verbal skills

    The language of leadership

The above, typically would be run over a number of – but not necessarily consecutive - days, but again there is flexibility here in terms of both format and content both of which can be shaped to meet your needs.

Characteristics of the workshops that promote learning

These are:

  • group size is kept to a a maximum of twelve
  • a safe, confidential environment is created
  • learning is experiential
  • goal setting - defining clearly defined outcomes is integral to the workshops
  • integration of workshop outcomes with personal, team and organisational needs is integral to the workshops
